Epiq becomes Škoda's smallest SUV
Škoda's entry-level electric model will be called Epiq. The 4,10 meter long crossover continues the series of SUV models whose designations end in “q” like Karoq and Kamiq. A first look at the design of the series model announced for 2025 is a study that has now been unveiled and has a modernized electric version of the classic Škoda radiator grille. Major visual changes should not be expected in the production model, so the modern and certainly attractive look should remain.
The roofline of the five-seater slopes slightly towards the rear, but up to 490 liters of luggage can still fit in the trunk. In the study, the cockpit with sustainable materials has a colorful but reduced design. Instead of analogue instruments, there is a small screen and the infotainment is operated via one central touchscreen.
Electric SUV with a range of 400 km
The Czech VW subsidiary has not yet provided any specific information about the technology, but promises a range of over 400 kilometers and suitability for bi-directional charging. In addition, the Epiq is likely to be based on the technical data of its already announced siblings VW ID.2 and Cupra Urban Rebel. It is also not yet clear whether the Epiq will be available with a trailer hitch.
The Epiq could help electromobility achieve a breakthrough for the masses. While electric cars under 30,000 euros were previously in short supply, the prices of the small SUV should be around 25.000 euros start. It is still unclear what size battery will be in the underbody and what range the basic model will have. Škoda primarily wants to attract electric newcomers to the Epiq.
Škoda Epiq in the mini SUV class
The Škoda Epiq's competitors include the Jeep Avenger, the Fiat 600e, the Opel Mokka, the Volvo EX30 and the upcoming Tesla Model 2 and Ford Puma Electric. This puts the vehicle in the class of mini SUVs Length of a small car and appropriate space conditions. In 2024, Škoda also wants to introduce the one class larger Škoda Elroq, which is priced below the only E model Enyaq to date. It will probably cost around 40,000 euros. In the next few years, the Czechs as a whole want to six new electric models introduce.
